Another weekend digging in Angel Fire and the new World Cup dh course is almost ready to go. Dubbed
the Chupacabra, it is lots of fun to ride with lots of flowy corners, a couple step downs, a road gap,
some off camber turns, and one BIG hip jump that will inspire you to pedal fast and boost high.
Swentz and Cole joined in the fun this weekend and helped a ton. It was nice to see someone else
step up and help out for once. There’s always lots of talking about bro-ing down and helping dig,
but not much action. This weekend was a nice change on that front. I’d grab a shovel and dig with
either one of those boys any day. Thanks fellas.
Oh, Phil Saxena, the official UCI 4-cross track builder got into town late Saturday afternoon. By the
looks of things on Sunday evening when we left, things will be huge and finished in time for the Chile
Challenge in ten days.

Building the world cup dh course at Angel Fire this past weekend was very
productive. Although it’s still very snowy there, we got a lot done. The track
should be fast and flowy with lots of the notorious malpais rocks to keep things
interesting. The boys took some time out to practice some skills for ESPN’s
Great Outdoor Games this summer. More pics next week, so check back.

---The opening round of the Mountain States Cup Series was last weekend in Nathrop, CO. The Chalk
Creek Stampede treated the riders to a challenging, fun, and immaculately prepared four-cross
racing track – miles better than what we’re used to seeing at most NORBA National rounds.
Dave Ziegman and Matt Thompson both made the finals with Dave earning fourth place and Matt
third. Thanks to Keith Darner and all volunteers for a fun race.

it snowed all week in denver. anyone know where you can buy 2 houses on 2 acres with incredible dirt

I saw Steve Earle for the tenth time last Friday nite. Little doubt that he is one of the best
singer/songwriters of our time. An unbelievable storyteller with a true American heart.
Arbor reclamation continues at a steady rate. Things are starting to look a lot better out there.
Dave and I went on an xc ride today. He got a ticket for failing to be in control (which was bullshit).
The trail cop guy was a total ass. The first words out of his mouth were, "That's gonna cost ya!"
Then he proceeds to call the sheriff because he said that I threatened him.
Who would ever believe that hogwash? Drama over, nice xc ride ensued.

So it turns out that Bootleg Canyon is pretty fun to ride. Some fun, flowy stuff
and a little bit of tech. All in all, a great training ground. Bring your pads
cause those rock are sharp! Oh, the people in town are nice too. Ask Jeff Evans
about the girl we saw at dinner Friday nite.
Saw Baloochi this weeeknd too. Cool paint job on his new Cannondale.
David K is my new favorite human - a degenerate, pure, original person with a great attitude.
Jeff Evans is the nicest downhiller I know - a good rider and great guy with a positive outlook.

Speaking of roost, we had an epic day of moto riding last Saturday.
60 degrees, sunny, and not much wind. I think Bosch rode a total of 10 minutes.

piece of the cyber-universe. it's basically ben cory's fault, so without further ado, here's a recap of
2004...from sonoma thru snowmass. riding, middle fingers and other crap.

dave gets a speeding ticket doing 500mph in a 55mph with a trailer while asking, "why is everyone around
here going so slow." stupid california.
ben decides slalom practice would be a good idea since he flew in
from australia to race. matty concurs and practices as well.
moga found a kick ass bar on the way back to the motel 6 while
driving thru wine country. dave thought the kyle ebbett piss
pot and goggles look was cool. f#^@ racing, let's go to
trails in gary fischer's backyard.

stopped at the santa cruz factory to pick up
some new v10s. matty liked his so much he flipped it off.
dave was so excited he built a wheel and ben cory was so excited
he flipped off everyone.

downhill mania was the talk of the town. ben decided to ride over
logs in hopes of intimidating the likes of dave and
matty. matt took his
anger out on the dirt.
eli took it out on moga. moga was promised the
cover of both DIRT and MTN BIKING, but caile noble got it instead
b/c he didn't have socks on. fresh thought he should have got it
while matt just raced slalom despite a
foot dragging moga. finally, you tell me what
houseman's leg is doing in between matt's wheels?

ben thinks it fun to do curved wall rides while matty decides it's
more fun to get hit by the cool kids that ride with no brakes.
(tech note: that shit made me nautious so i couldn't look and focus on it or i'd throw up on you).
vermont
ben wasn't into the whole maple syrup thing, so he wore his rain
gear. dave didn't mind getting it all over himself. matty did
his best to avoid the syrup and just shredded the wheat instead.
moga embraced the syrup and stuck to the trees. while there was
one casualty in 4x, it was offset by one less byron
bullet-head and a dave ziegman custom one-off visor.

calgary
since none of the little spankers went to calgary, here's what ya get...

after idaho, some arbor sessioning went on. like true
nocoastnocore thuglifers, the locals had to be
different by shredding the hidden xc lines.
snowmass

M.O. of the weekend. nate
wore pants like a true
fmxer and moga only rode his
bike when the clouds came out...some weird romanian
tradition. speaking of tradition. myles was back, so everyone
was doing turn-bars in homage.

mini golf, moto, matty breaking his foot at keystone (rumor was that he fell of a northshore stunt, but that was squished
when the doctor said, "no way, this break is a cause of speed and aggression, not goofy, slow stunt gooing.") durango in
a few days, so we'll see what happens. ben is getting good at watching t.v., moga is perfecting the art of getting is
face sprayed off with canned air, dave is fly-fishing, dougie is doing shots and beer at spill and eli is doing whatever
he does up in cheyenne. as they say in the film industry, "FIN"

Welcome to the new Team Big Crank Racing site. There's some work to be done. The links don't work
yet, but you can email the team with any questions
for now. In the meantime how 'bout some news?
Biggest thing to mention is that Australian Junior World Champ Ben Cory will
be riding for Big Crank in 2004. We're super stoked to have him aboard and know that it will mean
greater success for the whole squad.
The whole team has been moto'ing a lot this
winter. Colorado has been a good place to ride
this winter. Not too much snow and lots of action.
